It is 20 degrees with a light snow here at the lake. Wind is steady out of the Northwest, so it feels colder. The snow is much prettier than the rain we had been experiencing.
There is only a trace of snow on the ground. Christmas Day, it was in the high 40s to low 50s with steady rain. There is still ice on the lake, but it had been covered with rain water yesterday. I would not advise venturing out on the ice.
The warm weather and rain has caused some flooding. The Ausable between Keene Valley and Keene went over bank. Between Keene and Upper Jay, it was at bank full. The Saranac went over bank between Saranac Lake and Bloomingdale (the road remained passable). Be careful around streams and rivers.
Lots of folks up here for the Holidays. It is nice to see the A frame camp across Molasses Bay lit up at night. We delivered our last batch of holiday cookies to neighbors yesterday.
It is so pretty, will be heading into the woods shortly. The skis, snowshoes, and sleds will remain idle, however, awaiting snow.
