Labor Day Weekend

Why does it feel like August had an extra week?

It already seems quieter here at Loon Lake. I read in the paper that the Adirondacks are the destination of choice this weekend. The hiking trails will be crowded. Through Keene Valley and at the Adirondack Loj, parking lots fill before 6 AM. I imagine we will see more people here, climbing Loon Lake Mountain.

We will have quite a crowd here. Six grandkids coming. Oh, and their parents. We are fully stocked for S’Mores, and I have been told I am cooking twelve pizzas on Saturday.

Paula and I will run into Plattsburgh today, for lunch at the Naked Turtle. Beautiful spot on Lake Champlain. They close for the season after this weekend.

A reminder that it is the very early stages of hunting season. Goose Season is open. Grouse opens mid Month. New license required as of September 1st. Don’t forget the federal Duck Stamp, and your Harvest Information Program number.

When I went out with the dogs this morning, I saw a skunk. Clearly. First one I have ever seen in the Adirondacks— alive or dead. I actually thought we did not have skunks here. Need to look into this more.

It will be good to have my sons here. There is wood to split, a tree to drop, and I typically pull the swim float on Labor Day.

Enjoy, and be safe.
