Light rain in the forecast through the weekend. Most of the Summer folks have gone, and just about all the rental camps are empty.
Yet, the woods are packed with hikers, and it is a very busy weekend, in the Adirondacks. The 90 miler Adirondack Canoe Classic is this weekend. 250 canoes and kayaks, paddling from Old Forge to Saranac Lake. The finish line is on Lake Flower and the finish is something to see. The boats pick up speed as they come around that last bend. Best viewing will start around 10:30 – 11 AM.
Also this weekend, there is a 70 mile Ironman in Lake Placid, also on Sunday. Although I have done the canoe race 7 times, I have never tackled an Ironman (and I think I can safely say, I never will). I have a friend doing the race. Definitely a different mindset than paddling.
Hikers are out, everywhere. The number of hikers seems just to be increasing, more and more. We have adjusted to this by shifting our hiking midWeek, and to hiking more remote peaks here in the Northern Adirondacks.
Be aware that some hunting seasons have opened. The number of hunters in the woods will increase as we move into the Fall Season.
