We are in the Albany area right now– heading back to the lake later today.  Here, we had a great snowstorm overnight, into this morning.

I had to fire up my snowblower.  When this one dies, I am going to put a snowblower on the front of my John Deere Tractor.  I have wanted the upgrade for the last 15 years.  But I cannot justify it as long as my current snowblower is still working.

I bought this snowblower in 1987.  It is a Bolens, with a Briggs and Stratton motor.  I bougth it right after I purchased my first house– with a 100 foot driveway.  The unanticipated expense, after just buying a house, tapped me out.  The Bolens is indestructible.  I have had it serviced– only once.  The muffler went around 1998.  The only maintenance  I do is change the oil in the Fall, and put air in the tires.  It will not die.

This morning, I put new gas in, checked the oil (I did not change it, as I hoped it would not start).  I primed it and– as always, it started on the first pull.  When I was done clearing the drive, I changed the oil.

At this point, I may never put a blower on the tractor.  I already have a large John Deere snowblower at camp, and think were are getting closer to consolidating into a single household.

  1. I have a 1992 Troy-Bilt with a Briggs Stratton 10 HP engine that runs as well as the day I bought it. Troy-Bilt was a well-built machine back then, not so much these days. When I lived in Gansevoort, it got more use than my lawnmower.
Merry Christmas Keith and Paula, safe travels today.

  2. I have a Troy Bilt roto tiller. Used to take it back to the factory in Troy for service. Another machine, built to last. Merry Christmas.
